Two timid felines relied on each other for companionship all their lives. Their lives changed when they encountered a kind-hearted individual who returned to the shelter specifically to adopt them.
Gilly and Willy were the adorable duo rescued by the Exploits Valley SPCA after finding the rest of the litter of bobtail kittens they had saved the previous summer. The SPCA had always suspected there were more kittens in need of help, and they were right. Two months ago, they were able to bring the remaining cats to safety, including the shy brothers, Willy with his orange fur and Gilly the tabby. These inseparable siblings found solace in each other, comforted by their bond as they adjusted to their new surroundings. Despite their initial nervousness around humans, they were grateful to be indoors, snuggled up in cozy blankets with full bellies.
In the following days, Willy, the more courageous of the pair, started to become more comfortable around the staff and volunteers at ExploitsValleySPCA. Conversely, his brother Gilly remained shy and withdrawn, avoiding interaction with humans for an additional week.
Willy showed his love and support for Gilly through cuddles and purrs, constantly making sure his brother felt safe and secure. One staff member noted, “He looks after his timid brother Gilligan, who relies on him for survival.”
Right from the start, the two brothers relied on each other for support. At ExploitsValleySPCA, Gilly would stick close to Willy for protection, observing how he effortlessly engaged with visitors. Eventually, Gilly began to open up and show his true colors. With his brother by his side, encouraging him with each chin scratch from the visitors, Gilly’s initial fear faded away. He became more at ease and comfortable around people.
At ExploitsValleySPCA, Willy and Gilly have very contrasting personalities. Willy is the more extroverted of the two, while Gilly may seem reserved but craves attention and enjoys belly rubs in secret. Despite their unique traits, the shelter struggled to find them a forever home as shy cats are often passed over by potential adopters. Nevertheless, the dedicated staff persisted in spreading the word about the inseparable brothers, optimistic that the perfect family would eventually come their way.
Willy quickly developed a close bond with the staff, while Gilly preferred to stay hidden in his companion’s shadow. Ada came across a post about the inseparable duo and immediately felt a connection to them. After losing her dear cat, Raven, on Christmas Eve, Ada felt a void in her home. She knew she needed to find the perfect cat to fill that empty space.
Willy gave Gilly a sense of security, as they both made their way to the Exploits Valley SPCA shelter. As she searched for the purrfect furry friend, she got to know the inseparable duo of Willy and Gilly. It was heartwarming to see how much the brothers relied on each other.
“The orange cat was full of energy and confidence, while the tabby seemed more reserved and leaned on his brother for comfort. It makes you wonder what kind of adventures they’ve had together to form such a strong bond.”
The siblings were brought into the family at the same time by ExploitsValleySPCA. Ada initially only intended to bring home one feline friend, but the connection between the two brothers was too strong to ignore. After a second visit to the shelter, Ada was convinced that these two cats belonged together with her. She could sense their special bond and knew that separating them would be completely unfair.
They have really warmed up to their new environment, soaking up all the love and affection they receive and happily frolicking with their toys. Gilly, now known as Kish, and Willy, now called Copper, are inseparable in their new home, sticking together like glue. It’s almost as if they can read each other’s minds, moving and behaving in sync. The duo is slowly but surely embracing the attention, enjoying playtime with their toys, and indulging in plenty of treats.
They enjoy snuggling up with their mom on the sofa. The Exploits Valley SPCA mentioned that it was evident right from the start that these siblings relied on each other. Observing them settled in their new environment further confirms this bond,” stated the SPCA. Ada visited the shelter multiple times, carefully considering her options before ultimately choosing these two. Now that they’re settled in their new home, Ada is confident that she made the perfect choice.
Living in their forever home is such a great experience for these pets. They are truly thriving at Exploits Valley SPCA.
